Hiring an accountant near you sounds simple enough, but 'local' can mean very different things in practice. Some firms are local in postcode only. Others actually know your high street and the businesses on it. Here's what's worth checking before you hand over your books.

Do they know the local business scene?

There's a real advantage to working with someone who understands the area you trade in. An accountant who already looks after other Leeds and Garforth businesses has a feel for what's normal in your trade, what local suppliers and landlords are like, and where costs tend to creep up.
